The Eastern New Mexico rodeo team wrapped up another successful event at the 2018 College “Daze” Rodeo this past weekend.

The rodeo featured 17 teams from across the Southwest region and once again proved to be one of the toughest fields in all of collegiate rodeo. Eastern New Mexico finished in 16th place on the men’s side of the event and in 10th place for the women’s side.

Clarendon College took home first place honors on the men’s side of the event with 345 total points, while Tarleton State won the girl’s side with 340 total points.

The Hounds were led by Catherine Hisel and Logan Hyatt, who each qualified for the short-go in their respective rounds. Hisel was one of ten cowgirls to qualify for the short-go in the Breakaway Roping, but failed to record a time on Saturday night, thus knocking her out of a chance to place in the average.

Hyatt finished in sixth place in the Steer Wrestling with an average time of 10.4, securing the lone 10 points for the Eastern men’s team for the weekend. Hyatt qualified for Saturday night’s performance with a time of 5.3 in the long round and then bettered that effort on Saturday night with a time of 5.1 in front of a full-capacity crowd at the Lewis Cooper Arena.

The Eastern New Mexico rodeo teams will head out for their second rodeo of the year at the Sul Ross State Rodeo in Alpine, Texas on Sept. 27-29.
