Eastern New Mexico University volleyball head coach Sia Poyer announced the 2017 schedule for the upcoming fall season. The Greyhounds take part in a pair of preseason tournaments before opening up Lone Star Conference play.
The Green and Silver open the campaign at the Courtyard and Residence Inn By Marriott Oredigger Volleyball Classic, hosted by Colorado School of Mines on Sep. 1-2. ENMU takes on Wayne State, Mines, Regis and Augustana.
The Greyhounds will be meeting WSC for the first time in program history. Eastern holds a 2-4 record all-time against Mines with the most recent meeting coming in 2004. ENMU goes head-to-head with Regis and Augustana for the first time since 2003 and 2008, respectively, looking for the first wins against each squad (0-2 against both all-time).
The following weekend, ENMU travels to Lubbock, Texas, for a tournament at Lubbock Christian, looking to avenge several setbacks suffered in the 2016 season. Along with the Chaparrals, Poyer’s squad matches up with Colorado Mesa, Colorado Christian and Southwestern Oklahoma State from Sep. 8-9.
The Greyhounds wrap up the non-conference slate with a pair of midweek matchups with New Mexico Highlands on Sep. 19 and LCU on Oct. 3.
ENMU returns 13 players from last season’s 19-13 squad that posted the best finish since the 2004 season, earning a fourth-place finish in the Lone Star Conference regular season and first win at the LSC Tournament since 2004.
