PORTALES, N.M. – Jan. 25, 2022 – Eastern New Mexico University is proud to announce that it was the winner of the first annual college blood drive competition.
The blood drive was held on Nov. 10, 2021 on the campuses of ENMU in Portales, Western New Mexico in Silver City, N.M. and New Mexico Military Institute in Roswell, N.M.
According to figures released by Stephanie Seabrease, donor recruitment supervisor for Vitalant, 69 donors at the Campus Union Ballroom on the ENMU campus donated 83 liters of blood to earn a traveling plaque honoring Eastern’s accomplishment.
“We had so many college students, we had to turn some away due to a lack of staff,” Seabrease said of Eastern’s effort. “We plan to add more colleges next year and hopefully grow this event into something statewide.”
NMMI brought in 75 liters from 67 donors, while WNMU secured 74 liters from 63 donors.
