Students from all over arrived on Saturday to move into their new home for the next year as the kick-off to Dawg Days 2018.
Dawg Days is the new student orientation held at ENMU every fall. It is a fun-filled weekend of programs and events designed to help prepare incoming freshmen for college life.
Student leaders guide the new students through different academic and entertainment programs. It’s a weekend that allows students to get the information they need for the semester, such as their computer account. They get to learn the fight song, make new friends at social mixers, and just have a good time on the campus of their new school.
Many upperclassmen volunteered their time to help make the weekend special, including the ENMU football team, who worked alongside newcomers and their families to help get them moved in.
The campus was energized as new faces flooded the dorm buildings and common areas. Local businesses, like JP Stone Bank and Ashley Furniture, joined in on the celebration with booths, giveaways, and prizes.
One of the many events that took place was ice cream with the Elwells, to allow students to get to know ENMU’s President and First Lady, Dr. Jeff Elwell and Mrs. Edwina Gower.
Students were able to enjoy performances by The Greyhound Sound and Spirit Squad. Other campus organizations like sororities, sports teams, and clubs were out recruiting and giving away prizes. It was a busy, but exciting weekend full of pep rallies, prizes, and a paint party that featured DJ Ricky Ri.
Dawg Days kicked off the start of an exciting school year for ENMU, and Portales is thrilled to have the new faces in the community!
