PORTALES, N.M. – The year is 2022 and the Greyhound football schedule is set.

Just like the tune “Back in Time” by Huey Lewis, coach Tye Hiatt and the team might be singing, “Is it the 2000s or 2022?”

That’s because the road to the Lone Star Conference championship boasts 11 games with eight conference matchups, including a couple matchups that haven’t taken place for awhile.

Marty McFly and Doc must be in the driver’s seat as the team will face both New Mexico DII programs in the same season for the first time since 2002.

“There are many kids on our roster from the state of New Mexico and we take a lot of pride in working to be the best D2 school in the state,” said Hiatt on the chance for the team to take on NMHU and WNMU. “I know our kids are excited to compete against old teammates and play in front of their friends and family.”

The Greyhounds open the campaign with a weekday trip to Las Vegas, NM to take on New Mexico Highlands (Sept. 1).

The Hounds hold a 32-13 advantage in the series and are looking to keep the momentum going against the Cowboys as they have won the past two meetings with the most recent meeting coming in 2015.

The team hosts conference foe Midwestern State (Sept. 10) for the first LSC game of the year as the school will also celebrate Military Appreciation Night with kickoff set for 6:00 p.m.

ENMU will hit the road with a pair of matchups in the Lone Star state to close out the first month of play.

The Hounds will reunite against Tarleton State (Sept. 17) for the first time in three years as the Texans joined the DI membership of the NCAA. The game will be televised on ESPN+. The team will then face Texas A&M Kingsville (Sept. 24).

“The opportunity to play Tarleton is a great chance for our kids to showcase themselves against an FCS opponent and be able to play on ESPN,” said Hiatt on the DI vs. DII matchup. “We have some great history with Tarleton and we look forward to renewing that relationship. This game will be a great test for us as a program and our players and coaches are excited for the challenge.”

Eastern New Mexico leads the overall series against Tarleton State, 14-13, with the program’s latest win over the Texans coming in 2017 on the road.

The future is looking fly as the conference has agreed to a two-year partnership (2022-23) with the Great Northwest Athletic Conference (GNAC) to provide football membership to Central Washington University, Western Oregon University, and Simon Fraser University. The Hounds will face all three opponents this year.

The annual Homecoming game will open the month of October for ENMU as the team welcomes Central Washington (Oct. 1) to Greyhound Stadium at 6:00 p.m. The following week, the Greyhounds hit the road for a game at Angelo State (Oct. 8).

The program hosts Simon Fraser (Oct. 15) for Family Weekend with a 6:00 p.m. start time. To complete the trio, ENMU will head west to take on Western Oregon.

UT Permian Basin (Oct. 29) will come to Portales for Youth Day with a 2:00 p.m. slated kickoff. The final road contest for the Hounds will be at West Texas A&M (Nov. 5) for the Wagon Wheel Game.

Regular season play concludes with the Chile Bowl. The Greyhounds and Western New Mexico (Nov. 12) will square off at Greyhound Stadium to determine who gets to hoist the coveted trophy. ENMU holds a 16 game winning streak in the series and maintains a 43-15 advantage in the all-time matchup. The game is scheduled for 2:00 p.m.

If our calculations are correct, when this baby hits 88 miles per hour, you are going to know it’s time for Greyhound football. So remember to save the dates and come to Greyhound Stadium to support coach Hiatt and the boys this fall.

Runnerz Cantina Football VIP Passes and memberships to the Greyhound Club are currently on sale. Season tickets for ENMU Football will be available soon for purchase, while single game tickets will go on sale in August.
