ENMU to Hold Martin Luther King Jr. Day Celebration on Jan. 20

ENMU and the Office of Campus Life invite community members and ENMU students, faculty and staff to join the celebration of Martin Luther King Jr. on Jan. 20, 2020.
The first event is a breakfast meeting of community leaders at 8 a.m. in the ENMU Campus Union (CUB) Ballroom. Invitations for this event have been sent. The event’s speaker is Rev. Delmus L. Gillis II, senior pastor of the Bethlehem Baptist Church in Clovis, New Mexico. He is a board member of the National Baptist Convention USA, Inc., president of the United Ministerial Fellowship of Clovis, and the president of the Jerusalem District Congress of Christian Education. He also serves on the executive board of the New Mexico Office of African American Affairs.
Dr. Jeff Elwell, president of ENMU, said, “We are delighted to have such a respected and influential speaker to deliver an address at the Martin Luther King Jr. Day Celebration breakfast. I’m looking forward to welcoming him to the campus and hearing what I’m sure will be an inspiring message.”

A march commemorating Dr. King’s role in the civil rights movement begins at 5 p.m. at the Portales Memorial Building.

Following the march, refreshments will be served at the CUB Ballroom, followed by the MLK Program at 6 p.m.
The program includes special performances by ENMU and Portales High School Choirs as well as the presentation of the Dolores Penrod Award.

Sodexo is providing a special buffet for the celebration from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Special events prices will apply to the meal.
