PORTALES, NM – Nov. 10, 2022 – The Eastern New Mexico University Department of Theatre and Digital Filmmaking premiers the play Exit, Pursued By a Bear, with performances running Nov. 10-13 at the University Theatre Center.

Exit, Pursued by a Bear features a thrilling storyline in which main character Nan has duct-taped her husband, Kyle, to a recliner to force him to see what their marriage has done to her. Will he learn that physical abuse is wrong? Or will he be eaten by the bears Nan is luring to their north Georgia home?

Beck praised the four students involved in the production: actors Liam Hurley, Isreal Stacy, Micaela Vigil and Eden Saldaña, and stage manager Allison Miles.

“I always admire our actors. They are full-time students who spend their days in class and come out each night to rehearse,” Beck said. “We are also lucky to have a very talented designer in Josh Jenkins.”

The subject matter is intense and recommended for mature audiences due to language and themes of domestic violence. Performances are nightly from Nov. 10-12 at 7 p.m., with a matinee showing on Nov. 13 at 2 p.m.

“Though the theme of domestic abuse is a serious one, we had an invited dress rehearsal, and the audience laughed and sang along with the karaoke that ends the play,” Beck said.

Admission is free for current ENMU students with a valid ID. Tickets are $10 for general admission and $7 for senior citizens and active military. Order tickets online at enmu.edu/theatrelive.
