BIG SPRING, TEXAS – The Eastern New Mexico rodeo program had a fantastic weekend at the Howard College Rodeo. Seven different competitors advanced to the short round of competition, and the women’s team finished tied for third in the team standings.
Madelyn Schauer had a great weekend accumulating 130 points towards team scoring. In goat tying, had a second-place finish. In the long round, Schauer was the quickest competitor with a time of 8.8 seconds. In the shirt round, Schauer posted a time of 9.3 seconds (fifth fastest in the long round). With a compiled time of 18.1 seconds, Schauer took home second place in the average. Schauer also reached the short round in breakaway roping, posting a time of 2.8 seconds. In total, Schauer scored the second most points of any individual competing.
Another ENMU competitor was in breakaway roping, Quinn Leslie took home second place after a great time in the short round. A time of 2.8 seconds in the long round moved them to the next round, and clocked a time of 3.7 seconds, the second fastest time in the round. With a compiled time of 6.5 seconds, Leslie placed second in the average and earned 100 points towards team scoring.
Kelby Keeley had a strong performance in goat tying, reaching the short round with a time of 9.8 seconds. In the short round, posted a similar time at 9.9 seconds to place tied-6th. Both times resulted in a seventh-place finish for the average. Meanwhile, Shacie Marr had a standout showing in barrel racing. Marr clocked the fifth fastest time in the long round, 16.82 seconds, and followed in the long round with a time of 23.16. Marr earned 20 points towards team scoring after long round performance. In total, the women’s team racked up 150 total point in team scoring.
In team roping, two Greyhounds advanced to the short round. Trent Wood, with his partner Hayden Powell of Cisco College, posted a long round time of 6.2 seconds to finish third. Couy McBride, with his partner Colter Figg of New Mexico Junior College, also made it out of the long round with a time of 8.3 seconds. Neither pair were able to score a time in the long round, but Wood picked up 30 points towards team scoring with his long round time.
Eastern New Mexico Rodeo conclude its schedule next weekend, Apr. 28-Apr.30 at the Tarleton State rodeo in Stephenville, Texas.
