PORTALES, NM – The Eastern New Mexico men’s basketball team pulled off a 62-59 come from behind victory over the University of Arkansas-Fort Smith on Saturday afternoon in Greyhound Arena.

The first ten minutes of the contest was back and forth as both teams fought for the advantage. With the game tied, 16-16, with 9:42 left on the clock, the Lions went on a 9-0 run (8:28-4:24) to take the lead.

UAFS maintained the advantage throughout the rest of the frame to go into halftime up, 33-21.

The Lions kept the lead for the majority of the second half, going up by as many as 15 points several times.

However, ENMU began to chip away at the lead and went on an 11-0 run (7:15-4:42) to cut the deficit to two points (54-52).

With 2:24 left to be played, Cornell Greenwood hit a three-pointer to bring the Hounds within one point before James Jordan netted a layup to give ENMU a 60-59 lead.

Jordan went two-for-two on free throws with five seconds remaining and then stole the ball on the Lions’ last inbound of the game to secure the 62-59 win for Eastern.

NOTABLE STATS

  • Kentrell Pullian led the Greyhound offense with 19 points, while JaQuan Morris added 13 points.
  • Marvin Mapaga paced the squad on the glass with nine rebounds. Pullian was close behind with eight boards.
  • Greenwood finished the game with nine points, three steals, and two blocks.
  • The Greyhounds outscored the Lions 21-5 in the last 7:15 of the contest.
