The 2018 football season is just around the corner and the Eastern New Mexico Football team finds themselves receiving votes in the American Football Coaches Association (AFCA) Preseason Top-25 Poll. The Hounds totaled 71 points in poll to start the year in the receiving votes section.

ENMU finished the 2017 campaign at 8-2 overall, with a 6-2 mark in Lone Star Conference play to finish third in the league standings. The Hounds eight wins in 2017 under first year head coach Kelley Lee were the most in a season since 2002 and it was the ninth time in program history the Hounds recorded at least eight wins in a season.

Earlier this summer, the gridiron Hounds were picked to finish third in the LSC in the coaches preseason poll, behind defending LSC champion and national champion MSU Texas and Texas A&M-Commerce. Both teams are ranked in the AFCA preseason poll. Texas A&M-Commerce claimed the top spot with 748 points and the 13 first place votes after claiming the 2017 National Championship. MSU Texas will start the year ranked No. 11. Rounding out the top-five in the AFCA poll is West Florida at No. 2, Minnesota State-Mankato at No. 3, and Indiana (Pa.) at No. 4. Fort Hays State and Northwest Missouri State are tied for fifth.

ENMU will kickoff the 2018 season on Thursday, Aug. 30 at Missouri S&T. The first ENMU home game will be on Saturday, Sept. 8 against Colorado Mesa at 7 p.m.
