PORTALES, N.M. – The Eastern New Mexico University rodeo team concluded action at the College Daze Rodeo this past weekend at Lewis Cooper Arena. Overall, ENMU tied for fourth on the women’s side with 155 points while the men’s team finished ninth with 145 points.
South Plains College took home the top spot on the women’s side with 255 points. On the men’s side, Odessa College won the event with a score of 360.
The women’s goat tying team turned in a strong performance. Celie Vick was 8.3 and 8.4 to tie for first in the short go and tied for second in the average. Kaci Kamm lassoed a time of 8.5 and 8.6 to split third and fourth in the short go and finished fourth in the average. Lany Elkins posted a time of 8.1 and 8.6 to split third and fourth in the short go and tie for second in the average. National champion, Tawny Barry, was 7.9 in the first go, earning the top spot, but did not place in the short go or the average.
The men’s steer wrestling team also produced a quality outing. Trey Jackson was 6.5 and 5.8 to spilt third and fourth in the short go and third in the average. Landon Beardsworth wrestled in a time of 4.9 and 15.4 to tie for first in the short go, but was too long on his second steer to place in the short go or average.
