PORTALES, NM – Aug. 11, 2021 – Members of the Eastern New Mexico University choirs enjoyed a month of travel, performances and history as traveled across Spain for a series of concerts in July.

Choir member and ENMU Regent Chandlar Head posted regularly on social media about the group’s travel across the Iberian Peninsula. The ENMU Foundation funded part of the trip, and Head was filled with gratitude for both that and the support received by various donors to make the trip possible.

“Thank you for making a difference in these students’ lives,” Head wrote in an email to the Foundation board. “They will remember this trip for the rest of their lives.”

Among the sights and events the choir experienced were touring Barcelona and singing Mass in the Crypt of La Sagrada Familia.

“We were told by our local guide that we were the first group she has seen able to perform in the Crypt due to the exclusive nature of the venue,” Head related. “After a very warm applause from the audience, we received a certificate of patronage for the organ of the church and were informed that a plaque with our name would be placed there.”

The choir also toured Valencia, Granada, Seville, Cordoba and Madrid, building memories and making music.

“We walked an average of eight miles a day, ate some incredible food and shared some amazing music with the people of the communities,” Head recalled.
