The Eastern New Mexico University baseball team hosts its first home series this weekend as it welcomes Texas-Permian Basin to the friendly confines of Greyhound Field for a four-game set beginning on Friday. First pitch on St. Patrick’s Day is slated for 7 p.m. while Saturday’s double-header will commence at 1 p.m. Sunday’s finale begins at 1 p.m. in the rubber match.
Even though this is a meeting between two Lone Star Conference teams, the games this weekend will not count toward conference standings. Eastern enters the matchup at 17-5 while UTPB comes in with a 6-10 mark overall.
Offensively, the Greyhounds boast one of the nation’s most prolific offenses, scoring 231 runs and hitting at a .350 clip as a team. Andrew Stubbs (.469), Alex DeLaCruz (.463) and Michael McNicholl (.426) are all hitting about the .400 plateau. McNicholl leads the club in the power statistics with five long balls and 37 RBI while DeLaCruz and outfielder Malcolm Smith are tied for the national lead with 34 runs scored, apiece.
On the rubber, Scott Klein (4-1, 4.18 ERA), Keenan Dodd (3-1, 2.57 ERA) and Austin Paisar (2-1, 2.78) have served as the frontline starters for the Greyhounds this season. Victor Persad (0-0, 2.00 ERA, 2 saves) and Nick DeArmond (2-1, 3.18 ERA, 1 save) have been the top relievers out of the bullpen.
Next weekend, ENMU returns to the friendly confines of Greyhound Field to open up conference play against rival West Texas A&M. For all the latest news on ENMU athletics, follow @ENMUBaseball and @ENMUAthletics on Twitter, Instagram and Facebook.
