PORTALES, NM – Eastern New Mexico University Athletic Director Dr. Greg Waggoner has announced the restructuring of the Sports Information Office along with two new hires. William McLaughlin will serve as the Sports Information Director, while Ryan Shumaker will be the Coordinator of Sports Information and Media.

With the departure of Adam Pitterman and some other moving parts in the staffing structure of the athletic department,” said Waggoner. “We have decided to reorganize the sports information office and we believe it will allow us more efficiency both inside the sports information office and within the athletic department. ”

After two seasons at University of Central Missouri, McLaughlin has seen some of the best the NCAA Division II has to offer. He served as the primary contact for an undefeated National Championship women’s soccer team. The women’s basketball team also claimed a national crown during his stint.

“I am very thankful for this opportunity and excited to join the Greyhound family,” said McLaughlin. “I want to thank the Director of Athletics, Dr. Greg Waggoner, for this great opportunity. Eastern New Mexico University is a well-regarded program in Division II athletics and the Lone Star Conference. I am grateful and blessed to further my professional career here. I want to thank the Good Lord, my family, and all those who have guided me up to this point in my career. I look forward to working with Ryan Shumaker and everyone else in this successful and growing department.”

McLaughlin was the media contact for women’s soccer, wrestling, and women’s bowling. He also was a secondary contact for men’s basketball, both golf teams and softball. He disseminated information on those teams for press releases, handled in-game statistics, graphics design, game operations, the website and social media.

“We are excited to have William aboard the Greyhound express,” said Waggoner. “He is a knowledgeable, skilled and high energy individual that has maturity beyond his years and has roots in the ENMU family.”

Shumaker will bring a wealth of fresh ideas and enthusiasm to the office. He was a valuable member of the Northwestern Oklahoma State Sports Information Office and sports director for the student newspaper. At NWOSU, he served as the primary contact for volleyball, both golf teams and women’s basketball. He also was a secondary contact for football.

“First off I’d like to thank the committee and especially Dr. Waggoner for the opportunity the position provides and couldn’t be more excited to get to work in Portales,” said Shumaker. “Eastern New Mexico University has a strong tradition of athletic excellence and I look forward to promoting the continuing success that a quality department like the one at Eastern will continue to produce. I am blessed to have a strong support system of family and friends, as well as a solid core of mentors that have prepared me for this position and I look forward to getting to know the staff already in place and learn how my set of skills can help continually improve the sports information services of the department. #ReignForever”

Over the last three years, he gained a wealth of experience in game operations and familiarized himself with statistical processes and rules. Shumaker also garnered a great deal of knowledge in covering events and desktop publishing through his work at the newspaper, which earned Silver Recognition from the Oklahoma Collegiate Newspaper Association for the 2016 academic year.

“We look forward to having Ryan join the Greyhound family,” said Waggoner. “He comes to us highly recommended by his supervisors and peers and we believe he and his skills set will be a strong contributor to Greyhound Nation in the years to come.”
