Eastern New Mexico University Athletic Director has announced the addition of Ashley Nelson to the Greyhound Athletic Staff. An ENMU graduate, Nelson will serve as the Greyhounds’ Spirit Squad Coach while she continues a six-year stint as the Youth Director at the Portales Recreation Center.

“I am so excited to be a part of the ENMU Athletic family,” said Nelson. I have always had a love for ENMU and enjoyed my time as a Greyhound. As a member of the ENMU spirit squad and ASENMU I learned so much about life, friendship, and school spirit. I can’t wait to teach and show my team all the great things ENMU has to offer.”
“We are pleased to have Ashley on board with the Greyhound Athletic Family,” said Waggoner. “Ashley is a strong part of the entire ENMU Family and we are confident she will do a fine job leading the Greyhound Cheer Squad.”

Nelson has a drive to succeed and brings a wealth of experience after years of travel. She has lived in Nebraska, Italy and Germany, prior to moving to Clovis, NM.
In 2016, Nelson earned her Bachelor’s degree in psychology/sports management at Eastern after she picked up an Associates’ Degree in Arts with an Emphasis in Recreational. She is currently working on her Master’s degree in physical education with an emphasis in sports administration, which she intends to complete in 2019.

As a youth cheerleading coach, Nelson handled all aspects of the job, which included scheduling, ordering uniforms, planning practice, and communicating with parents, coaches and community members.

Nelson has been a big part of the ENMU community for a long time. As a member of the Office of Campus Life and Alumni Board, she has deep roots and a strong interest in everything that goes on at Eastern New Mexico University.
