Football
The Eastern New Mexico Greyhounds ended their season with five wins and six losses. The most significant game for the Hounds was winning the Wagon Wheel game and bringing it home to Portales once again. Eastern did not let West Texas A&M score one point and showed tremendous defense.
Eastern’s next dominant performance came in the form of the Homecoming game, where they beat Western New Mexico University by over 46 points, winning the game 55-9.
Volleyball
ENMU volleyball concluded their season with nine wins and 20 losses. The Greyhounds competed hard in the conference games and gained experience in out-of-conference games to build on for next season. Jasmine Gannon was a real stand out on the court this season for the Hounds. On Nov. 8, the Hounds saw their season come to an end in the Lone Star Conference tournament with a loss in the quarter finals to Tarleton State.
Cross country
Both men’s and women’s cross country teams had long seasons. With the highlights more so on the woman’s side. The women won the LSC preview meet, coming away with a third-place finish at the conference championships, also with an individual champion Mercy Rotich, who dominated the whole race from the start to finish. Rotich went on to place 15that regionals.
Men’s soccer
The men’s soccer team had its most successful season in recent years with a completely new squad of players. The men’s soccer team showed remarkable improvement, doubling the win total from the year prior. Aderi Arthur-Dede was named the league’s freshman player of the year; this is the first time an ENMU soccer player has received such an award. Overall, it was a successful season for the Hounds as they finished their season with an 8-8-1 record and a 6-6-2 mark in conference play.
Women’s soccer
The women’s soccer team also showed leaps of improvement this season, showing that in the next few years they can compete with the best teams in the country. The Hounds fell to Angelo State in the championship game in the Lonestar tournament 2-0. ENMU finished its season with a 9-9-2 record and a 5-6-1 record in Lonestar play. The last time ENMU won nine games was back in 2014.
Rodeo
The ENMU rodeo teams competed in five rodeos total over the span of the semester, each time getting better and better with each competition. The most successful rodeo for the Hounds was at the end of the season when the Hounds finished sixth place on the men’s side and eighth place on the women’s side. Freshman Logan Hyatt led the way for the Hounds, taking second place in steer wrestling for the men’s team, which finished with 170 points. Hyatt and fellow freshman Stran Thompson served as the point scores and were the leader for the team most of the season
On the women’s side, Timber Kelly, Laney Elkins, and Molly Griffin were the standouts of the season with all three joining the men for the short round at Texas Tech. Both men’s and women’s rodeo teams will continue their training over the winter and heading into the spring semester. Both teams will be gunning for an even stronger presence in the spring
