The Elida Tigers hosted Vaughn on Thursday, September 5 at 7 pm. Vaughn received the ball first after a kick from Elida, but quickly turned over the ball and Colton Ferguson (#30) ran 50 yards to score the Tigers’ first touchdown of the night.
Vaughn quickly retaliated with a returned kickoff for a touchdown, which put the score at an even 6-6, then added the extra point to take the lead.
The beginning of the 1st quarter was the last time Vaughn saw the lead in the game, however. The Tigers’ Teagan Burton (#22) launched a massive 55 yard pass to Ferguson (#30) for another touchdown. After several turnovers on 3rd down for Vaughn and a blocked punt that Tyler Belcher (#10) returned for a Tiger touchdown, Elida continued to add to the score. At the end of the 1t quarter, the Tigers were ahead 27-7.
Burton, Ferguson, and Wesley Poling (#12) then added an unmatched 20 points in the 2nd for Elida, and the 2 teams went into halftime with a score of 47-7.
Soon into the 3rd, Will Haley (#16) added a 50 yard rushing touchdown and a 65 yard kick return touchdown to Elida’s already dominating score. The game continued in that fashion for most of the 3rd. Vaughn was able to score another touchdown however, setting the score to 54-13.
The 4th showed exhaustion from both teams, and the continual scoring seemed to slow. The final score of the game was 66-13 in Elida’s favor. Proving the Tigers to be a dominating force in small town football this season. Elida is now 3-0 this season and face Carrizozo on the road, Friday, September 13 at 7pm.
