The Elida Tigers hosted a co-op team from Evangelical Christian Academy & Oak Grove Classical Academy on Monday, May 3 at 4 PM for their first game of the state playoffs.
The Tigers pulled out a win in a tough game against ECAOGCA. The final score was 78-69 and the win allowed the Tigers move up to an 11-1 record. The win set them up to play against Melrose in the next step of the state playoffs.
The game was on May 4 in Melrose and right out of the gate, the Buffalos took an early lead. Elida struggled to keep up in the first period, which ended in Melrose doubling their score. The teams went into the 2nd with a score of 33-14. By halftime, Elida had fallen behind 53-22.
With a large deficit to overcome, the Tigers had a tough 2nd half ahead of them. The Buffalos proved to be a tough opponent, one of the very few Elida struggled against all season, and the game ended in a loss for the Tigers.
The final score was 93-43, with Melrose winning and moving forward in the playoffs. The loss ended Elida’s season. The Tigers finished this shortened season, after COVID restrictions, with a record of 11-2 with is an excellent feat.
