Graveside services for Elaine Jones, 78, of Portales, will be held at 10:00 AM, Mon., Dec. 6, 2021 in the Floyd Cemetery with Rev. Rick Wilcher officiating.  Conner Lopez, Jacob Coombes, Austen Jones and Hunter Jones will act as honorary pallbearers.

Elaine Janice Jones was born June 17, 1943 in York, PA to the home of Janice (Hoke) and Ralph Brenneman, and died at her home in Portales on Dec. 1, 2021. Her parents moved to Albuquerque, NM when she was a tiny baby. Elaine lived there until after she was married to Charles Roy Jones, better known as “Bill” on April 30, 1967. Their first home was in Carlsbad, NM. From there they moved first to Belen and later to Clovis with the railroad. In 1976, they moved to Portales. During her lifetime, Elaine had been able to be a homemaker for most of her married life. However, she had held several jobs at different times. She worked for a year or so as a railroad engineer. She had also been a Blackjack dealer at Sky City Casino in Grants when they lived in Belen. Her favorite things to do were sewing and quilting and cooking and baking. Her banana nut bread and her yeast rolls and other breads were among her family’s favorites.

She is survived by Bill, her husband of 54 years of their home; a son and daughter-in-law, Paul and Barbara Jones of Portales; two daughters and a son-in-law, Serenda Chacon and Tory and Steven Lopez also of Portales; eight grandchildren, Austen, Hunter and Dakota Jones, Conner, Kaden and Christopher Lopez and Sarah and Jacob Coombes.  She was preceded in death by her parents, two brothers, Clayton and Dick Brenneman, a sister, Donna Foster, a son, Wayne Arlon Jones and a daughter, Shawnette Coombes.
