Durango, Colo. – The Eastern New Mexico Women’s basketball team moved to 2-0 after taking home a 69-62 victory against Fort Lewis Saturday afternoon, winning both of its games in the LSC/RMAC Conference Challenge.
The Hounds were able to jump out to a 7-0 lead to begin the game capped off by a three-pointer from junior Anasha Hurst and would maintain that advantage as they never trailed in the game. Junior Alivia Lewis finished with her first double-double of the season, tallying a game-high 20 points and 12 rebounds.
Eastern took a 43-34 lead into halftime and rode that momentum for the remainder of the contest. The Hounds were able to push their lead to 16 points keeping Fort Lewis scoreless for five minutes. With seven minutes remaining in regulation the Skyhawks were able to trim the deficit to two before Lewis knocked down a pair of free throws to thwart the FLC comeback.
Lewis shot 7-for-12 from the field, converting on 58 percent of her attempts and also led all competitors with three blocks. Senior Natalie DeLonge recorded 14 points and 7 rebounds while Sophomore Zamorye Cox totaled 12 points of her own to go along with her team-high five assists. The Hounds were impressive on the glass, out-rebounding their opposition 54-39.
On the road again next week, the Greyhounds visit Northern New Mexico Wednesday, Nov. 13 in Espanola, N.M. with the game scheduled for a 5 p.m. tip-off.
