PORTALES, N.M. – Eastern New Mexico fell by a final score of 49-10 to #4 Tarleton State inside Greyhound Stadium on Saturday night.

Senior Paul Terry continued his streak of consecutive 100-yard plus games with 100 yards exactly on 24 carries and notched the lone touchdown of the night for the Hounds. Tarleton State scored 14 early points against the Greyhounds and never looked back, jumping out to a 21-3 lead at the end of the first quarter.

Juniors Lamontre Huval and Connor Sosa each put in solid efforts in trying to slow down an explosive Tarleton State offensive attack, totaling 12 and 11 tackles respectively.

Terry’s four-yard score capped off a 10-play, 75-yard drive at the 9:40 mark of the second quarter and narrowed the Texan lead to 28-10. The Hounds defense stood strong on the next two offensive drives for the Texans, but a touchdown with just over 10 seconds remaining in the half for Tarleton State pushed the halftime deficit to 35-10 in favor of the Texans.

That momentum would carry over into the second half for the Texans as they posted touchdowns on their first two drives of the second half to put the score at 49-10 with 11:57 remaining in the third quarter, a mark that would hold until the completion of the contest. The loss is the first loss for the Hounds on their home field this season and drops the squad to 4-2 on the year and 2-2 in conference play.

Eastern New Mexico totaled 221 yards on the night, 173 which came on the ground. Senior Wyatt Strand had 30 yards on 16 carries while junior Just Manyweather hauled in a team-high three receptions for 33 yards. Seniors Ricky Barfield and Noah Sweitzer each recorded seven tackles on the night.

The Hounds will now turn their attention to consecutive rivalry games in the next two weeks against Western New Mexico and West Texas A&M. Eastern will hit the road across the state next week to take on the Mustangs in the second annual Chile Bowl before returning home to take on West Texas A&M in the annual Wagon Wheel on Oct. 26th.
