Many of you may know Robin Nations from her day job at Walmart. But, many of you may not know that Robins hobby has put Dora, NM on a soda bottle.  Recently two of Robin’s photographs were chosen by Jones Soda Company to be used on the labels of soft drinks.

According to Robin, “I had surprises in yesterday’s mail!  2 new Jones Soda labels; I’d lost the password to my account and I had not seen them picked.  And coincidentally, both of these are connected to our beloved little Dora school.  The basketball goal is a shot from the old gym and the bus is good old #7.  So if your kids ride with mine, they are on that soda label!!! #cooldaysschooldays #drinkjonessoda #findthoselabels”

Robin’s hobby photography is a passion that became fueled when people starting asking her to take pictures for them, of their kids, weddings, birthday parties and all kinds of special events. Robin’s passion for photography is so strong that you get this sense that she is looking through the world through a camera lens at all times!

Jones Soda Company is a craft beverage company created in Vancouver, BC in 1995 from the vision of Jones Soda founder, Peter van Stolk and photographer designer Victor John Penner. Jones was launched with the idea of using random photographs on their bottles using shots taken by Penner. But when consumers starting submitting their own photos, they quickly realized that user sourced participation made the brand even more special. There are also quotes or random sayings on the bottom of the bottle caps. The bottle caps are almost as much fun as the labels but not as much fun as the many flavor offerings. Regular flavors like cola and root beer are offered but there are also orange and cream, Blue Bubblegum, Green Apple, Strawberry Lime and Fufu Berry just to name a few. Flavors per label run may have up to three different photos used on them and they say that is where the term “rare Jones bottle” came from. If your photograph is chosen to be used on the label, Jones will send you a couple of the labels in the mail with a notice.

Robin said she has submitted 78-80 photographs over the past two years. And has had five chosen to become labels. She stated, “The first one I submitted is the one of the pump jacks. We were heading to Lubbock in a snowstorm and I took it through the window of the car while Fred was driving. The second one was the tractor. I was out driving around one afternoon just looking for something interesting to shoot and stumbled across this. The picture of Jake walking down the dirt road was taken at sunrise one morning while we were waiting for the bus. We got there early that day with the intention of taking a few pictures. I am pretty blessed that my family is tolerant enough to do a little modeling now and then. That one is my favorite label so far. I think the bus is now my second favorite.”

Roosevelt County people, find that bottle!
