The accolade was announced at the league’s football media day at McKinney ISD stadium.
The Eastern New Mexico Hall of Honors member is the first person from a medium based in Portales to win the coveted communication’s award twice.
“This award is all thanks to the student-athletes,” said Doc Elder. “They inspire me by competing with integrity and passion everyday.”
The award has been given by the LSC since 1971.
Other winners from ENMU media outlets include Jim Boles (1993, KSEL) and John Gentry (1988, KCLV).
“Doc’s professionalism and high standards have always made his broadcasts entertaining, fun, and insightful,” said ENMU Assistant Sports Information Director Cameron Brennan. “His personal stories as an ENMU history professor and his interactions with students really give a student-athlete perspective while in the booth.”
His passion for Greyhound athletics stretches wide as he travels to every away football and basketball game to do play-by-play for all Eastern competitions.
Doc keeps fans entertained with pop culture references, historical anecdotes, and personal profiles of ENMU student-athletes in the classroom.
When not broadcasting games for the LSC Digital Network or radio, he hosts a radio show and sports program where he interviews ENMU student-athletes, coaches, and administration staff, giving listeners and viewers a glimpse into Greyhound athletics.
Doc also serves as a history professor at Eastern and helps aspiring broadcasters learn the ropes at athletic events by mentoring them on radio and tv production.
Fans can catch the best broadcaster in the Lone Star Conference this year as he will be calling ENMU games on 105.9 KSEL-FM all season long.
