Senate Republican Caucus Chair David Gallegos
State Senator District 41
The Chairwoman of Senate Health and Public Affairs Committee claimed she was “working diligently” on addressing issues critical to the health and safety of New Mexicans. That’s why a vital medical malpractice fix, widely supported by our state’s medical providers, filed at the beginning of this legislative session received its first hearing with only days left. That’s some diligent work, Senator.
I hope democrats have a better explanation as to why critical legislation that New Mexicans desperately need is not going to pass this session. Measures to recruit and retain essential medical providers, aggressively target violent criminals, reduce the economic strain on working-class New Mexicans, and protect innocent and neglected children are apparently not as important as virtue signaling democrat lawmakers’ hatred for President Donald J. Trump (who received 423,391votes in New Mexico) and passing legislation to benefit the most needy amongst us: trial attorneys.
While the crucial pieces of legislation mentioned above are either killed or “diligently” heard 50 days into the session, by a miracle, bills that undermine the enforcement of federal law, shield illegal immigrants, and benefit the lowly trial attorneys are streamlined through the process. Rather than addressing our state’s most pressing issues, democrats are jeopardizing billions–yes billions with a B– of essential federal dollars just to impress their donors (who ironically are trial attorneys) and the left-wing groups who rally at the Capitol on Wednesdays to protest the long overdue need to identify waste, fraud, and abuse in the expenditure of federal taxpayer dollars.
In conclusion, when your community remains dangerous, when you still have to wait months or even a year to see your primary care provider, when our small businesses shut down, and when we potentially have to spend billions to make up for lost federal dollars, make sure to recognize the “diligent” work of the Democrat lawmakers because at least our state got to help increase revenues for trial attorneys and defy the President.
