PORTALES, NM — The Lone Star Conference office released its 2017-18 basketball preseason polls on Wednesday afternoon. The Eastern New Mexico University women’s basketball team which shared the league crown with Angelo State last season was picked to finish second in the standings.
With 280 total votes and seven first-place votes, the Hounds trailed only West Texas A&M in both categories among the conference’s 11 teams. The poll was voted on by Lone Star Conference Sports Information Directors, coaches and media representatives. The Hounds second-place selection was the team’s highest in the LSC preseason poll in recent memory. Last season, ENMU was chosen to finish tied with Midwestern State in seventh place.
Eastern finished 2016-17 with its third-ever 20-win season and advanced to the NCAA Championship Tournament for the first time.
The Eastern New Mexico University women’s Basketball team will open its exhibition schedule on Monday, October 30, at University of Arizona. The Hounds first home game will be on Thursday, November 30, against University of Texas of the Permian Basin.
