David Sharp Obituary

David Warren Sharp was born March 28, 1964, in Roswell, NM to the home of Martha Nell (Ingham) and Billy Warren Sharp, and died on the evening of June 15, 2024 in Clovis, NM.  David spent his early childhood in western Colorado.  In the mid 1970’s, the family relocated to Moriarty, NM where he graduated from high school in 1982.  He went on to earn a Bachelor’s Degree in Wild Life Science with a minor in Criminal Justice for New Mexico State University in 1988.

His first job was with the US Fish and Wildlife Department at Cape Romain in South Carolina, where he worked with endangered species of Sea Turtles and Red Wolves.  In the early 1990’s he returned to New Mexico to join the New Mexico State Parks system, and became a Park Ranger at Conchas Lake State Park.  In 1992, he attended the New Mexico Police Academy.  Several years later, David moved to Bottomless Lake State Park near Roswell, where he remained until shortly after 2000.  At that time, he transferred to Caballo Lake State Park in southwestern New Mexico.  In 2008, he was transferred to Blue Water Park and then back to Bottomless Lakes in 2010.  David had been retired since 2016.

He was very knowledgeable about insects and reptiles, and gave educational talks as part of his position at the parks.  For enjoyment, he enjoyed fishing.  David had been in declining health since shortly after his retirement.

He is survived by his parents, Martha and Billy Sharp of Fort Sumner, NM; his brother Eric Sharp of McIntosh, NM; his sister Jeanell Paiz and her companion Glen Tivis of Portales; a niece, Jewlie (Justin) Kerns and a nephew, Kody Paiz; a great-niece, Zoey Kerns and a great-nephew, Brantly Kerns; and his companion and former wife, Bonnie Brainard of Roswell, NM.
