Obituary
David Dwaine Short was born on July 23, 191 in Clovis, NM to the home of Cecil Dwaine Short and Judy (McKee) Short and died January 10, 2021 at his home in Portales. David grew up in and around the Clovis, Portales area. He graduated from Portales High School in 1979, and went to college at ENMU. At college, David was a D.J. for the radio station on campus and was in a band where he wrote, sang, and played guitar with some of his friends. He was a D.J. and performed many functions at school dances, the local bars and clubs. He married Timmi Khun in the summer of 1981, and had a son in June 1982 before divorcing that same month.
David studied for his realtor’s license, and moved to Texas. He spent approximately 20 years where he continued to D.J. at bars and found work at apartment complexes and worked his way up to managing multi-complex companies. He moved back to Portales to help his sister open an insurance company before returning to his work in Dallas where he eventually opened a bar called Stars Karaoke.
David returned to Portales in the fall of 2014 after his sister’s passing to help care for his mother and father. He worked hard remodeling his parents’ house and fixing up the property. He found a job as an Assistant Facilities Manager for base housing in Clovis with Balfour Beatty Investments Inc. He was the Facilities Community General Manager when he passed away.
David is survived by his partner, J. C. Werner, his son, Jerame and wife Echo (Wortham) Short and their three children, Ethan Short of San Jon, Dorian Short and Kyrianna Short, his mother, Judy Short, his brother, Jimmy and wife Susan Thomas, his three nieces Ashley Thomas, Meagen Short, Tiffany and husband, Greg Garcia and seven great-nieces, Alexis, Elizabeth, Cecilia, Daniella, Lilianna, Tyley and Calleigh.
He was preceded in death by his sister, Debbie Vanous on Aug. 24, 2013 and his father, Cecil Dwaine Short on Nov. 7, 2020.
