Daniel Caddell Obituary
Funeral services for Daniel Caddell, 98, of Portales will be held at 2:00 PM, Mon., Sept. 30, 2024 in the Wheeler Mortuary Chapel with Pastor Todd Terry officiating. Burial will follow in the Portales Cemetery with Terry Winnett, Jonathan Pieratt, Jeremey Pieratt, Mark Winnett, Darren Winnett, David Winnett, Deborah Soules and Kenneth Winnett serving as pallbearers.
Daniel Caddell was born June 27, 1926 in Greenwood, TX to the home of Myrtle Effie (Hill) and Lee Caddell and died early on the morning of Sept. 25, 2024 in Portales. Mr. Caddell grew up there in Greenwood. In Oct. of 1944 he entered the US Army and served until Aug. 1946. On Oct. 26, 1947 in Sunset, TX he was married to May Ruth Cathey. The first made their home in Dalhart where he worked for a grain company. Two years later they moved to Fort Worth, where they lived in a tent for the first year while he built a house. Later that house burned and they moved to the house where he lived until moving to Portales in 2003. During the time he was in Fort Worth, Mr. Caddell worked as a heavy equipment operator for Tarrant County building roads. He had been retired for a number of years.
For enjoyment and relaxation he liked to travel and go fishing. After moving to Portales, he regularly went to Oasis State Park to fish. He was a member of Generation Church.
He is survived by his daughter and son-in-law, Beverly and Royce Winnett of Portales; 10 grandchildren, 19 great-grandchildren and 10 great-great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by both of his parents, three sisters, Viola Parker, Mary Jo Edgerton and Myrtle Lee Brazille, his son, Daniel Wayland Caddell and by his wife, May Ruth Caddell who died Jan. 12, 2021.
