Obituary

A private family committal service will be conducted at a later time for Dale Brown, 83, of Portales.

Dale Wayne Brown was born Sept. 1, 1937, in Clovis, to the home of Myrtle Lee (Beevers) and John Odis Brown, and died Dec. 27, 2020 in Portales.  Dale grew up moving from Taiban to Melrose, Forrest and Floyd, before coming to Portales.  He graduated from high school in 1955, and went on to earn a BS in Math from ENMU.  While attending Eastern, he participated in the Rodeo Club competing in bronc and bull riding.

On Feb. 4, 1960 in Causey, he was married to Myrna Fuller.  Dale continued his education at Texas Tech University in Lubbock, where he completed a Master’s Degree in Agronomy and Math in 1965.  Upon graduating, he accepted a position in Iowa as an Agronomist with Custom Farm Services.  In 1970, he returned to Milnesand to farm in partnership with his father-in-law, Ben Fuller.  He eventually bought full interest in the farm, and continued to farm there until 1994.  Dale was a very progressive farmer, and was recognized as one of the first in the area to implement crop rotation.  Following his retirement in 1994, he moved to a small plot of land at the edge of Portales, where he continued to do a small amount of alfalfa farming.

Dale loved to read, and particularly enjoyed Louis L’Amour westerns.  He also liked watching westerns on television as well as rodeos.  He and his wife were members of the Conastoga Good Sams, and had many great trips with their friends, as well as trips by themselves.  Dale was a faithful Christian, and a member of Portales Valley Church of Christ.

He is survived by Myrna, his wife of more than 60 years of Portales; a son and daughter-in-law, Wendell and Michelle Brown of Gillette, WY; a daughter and son-in-law, Lee Ann and Ronny Foster of Portales; six grandchildren, Terra (Tim) King, Kaylee Foster, Leslie (Shane) Shepherd, Rebekah Brown, Bonnie (Mason) Ehrhart and Benjamin Brown; seven great-grandchildren, Sage, Kason, Joe and Will Shepherd and Kassidy, Katie and Hezekiah King; and a sister, Mary Etta Greenlees of San Diego, CA.  He was preceded in death by two brothers, Jake and Elton Brown and three sisters, Norma Morgan, Gayle Green and Oleta Jackson.
