LUBBOCK,TX. – Eastern New Mexico Cross Country opened its season at the Texas Tech Open on Saturday, Sept. 4, at the Chaparral Ridge Cross Country Course. The women’s program finished 4thout of an 11-team field, while the men’s team finished 10th of 12 teams.
The Green and Silver’s women’s program produced three top-ten finishers to stand in fourth place in team scoring, with Neri Getraide leading the way. Getraide turned in a personal best on a 5K course with a time of 18:36.60 to finish 5th in the field of 82 runners. Just behind Getraide, Marta Pascoacrossed the line in 8th clocking a time of 19:10.5 in their debut for the Greyhounds, while Aminata Kenyawani followed in 9th sporting a time of 19:10.6.
Lethabo Seema was the next Greyhound to cross the line with a time of 20:14.5 in 28th place. Shortly after, Kaylyn DeLaRosa and Lauren Griego finished with times of 21:05.4 and 23:17.6, respectively.
For the men’s program, Kelvin Kipkemboi broke in the top-10 of the 87 runners competing. Kipkemboi turned in a time of 20:17.4 during the 4-mile race to finish in 10th. Sylvestre Kibara followed next, crossing the line with a time of 22:08.4 for 44thplace.
A trio of Greyhounds would complete the course soon after: Dan Hurren (24:06.4), Zane Seidel(24:23.8), and Ricky Diaz (26:54.6).
The Greyhounds return to the course on Saturday, Sept. 18, when they travel to the ACU Naimadu Classic in Abilene, Texas. The men’s race is set to begin at 7:30 AM with the women’s race following at 8 AM.
