The Eastern New Mexico cross country programs have finalized their 2020 schedules, as announced by head coach Jeff Kavalunas.
“I’m excited about this schedule for 2020,” said Coach Kavalunas. “We are able to stay close to home for many meets and still to have the competition we need to get us ready to compete for an LSC Championship.”
The Greyhounds will brace themselves for four regular season races this fall, starting on Sept. 4 in Canyon, Texas as they compete in the West Texas Shootout.
Following a week of rest the Green and Silver will head to Lubbock, Texas as they gear up for the Texas Tech Invitational on Sept. 18. Two weeks later, the Hounds pack their bags before heading off to Fayetteville, Ark. for the Chili Pepper Invitational hosted by the University of Arkansas which is scheduled to take place on Oct. 3.
“The Chili Pepper meet in Ark. will be the highlight and also give the teams an opportunity to compete against other schools outside of our region,” said Coach Kavalunas. “The women’s team is returning almost all of its top runners from last season and has added several newcomers that will add even more depth to the team. On the men’s side we return the top runners, and with the addition of some talented transfers, will look to place much higher in the LSC Championship meet than the last couple of seasons.”
The High Plains squad will close out the regular season in San Angelo, Texas on Oct. 13 in the Angelo State Invitational.
The Hounds will have just 11 days to prepare for the Lone Star Conference Championships which will also be held in San Angelo on Oct. 24. Eastern will look to send qualifiers to the NCAA DII South Central Region Championships on Nov. 7 in Indianapolis as well as the National Championships in Evansville, Ind. on Nov. 21.
