The Portales School Board will hold its monthly public meeting on Tuesday, October 12th in the boardroom located at LC Cozzens Administration Building, 501 Abilene Street.  The meeting will begin at 6:00 pm.

One important item on the agenda will be a presentation to the school board from the Social Studies Vertical Team.  The team will be sharing their findings with regard to the New Social Studies Standards that the New Mexico Public Education Department (PED) is currently trying to get into all public school districts across the state.

The public is encouraged to attend.  If, however, members of the community cannot make the meeting, there will be a public, open forum on Monday, October 18th at 7:00 pm.  The forum will take place at the Memorial Building in Portales.

All those interested in finding out exactly what is in the new social studies standards are welcome to come learn and participate.  The forum will be led by Portales High School social studies teacher, Wade Fraze.

Can Critical Race Theory be found in the pages of these newly proposed social studies standards? Come find out.

The PED is taking public comment now through November 12th.  The PED plans on voting on the new social studies standards on November 12th.
