Portales, NM – Roosevelt County continues to work to reduce illegal dumping and was awarded Environmental Department grant funds for scrap tire amnesty days. All county residents can bring scrap tires to the Roosevelt County Road Department located at 1500 N. Boston on April 29 and 30 between the hours of 7:00 a.m. and 4:00 p.m. The County will not accept tractor-trailer, agricultural use, or other oversized tires or loads from a commercial tire shop. These tire amnesty days will be provided free of charge to residents in an effort to abate scrap tire illegal dumping.
“This is a new grant endeavor for the Road Department and we hope it will help reduce the amount of illegal dumping of scrap tires on County roads,” stated Interim Road Superintendent Juan Dominguez. “This will be our first tire amnesty collection and we strongly encourage residents to take advantage of this free opportunity and dispose of your scrap tires appropriately.”
