Roosevelt County Board of Commission
109 W. First St.
Portales, NM  88130

Dear Commissioners,

Please find this, my official notice of resignation as Roosevelt County Manager and the initiation of my 60-day notice.  My final day will be July 26, 2024. I have enjoyed this season of public service and incredible challenges.  This has not been an easy nor quick decision as we’ve spent more than 18 months praying for God’s direction and preparing for His release.

“Never be lazy, but work hard and serve the Lord enthusiastically.” Romans 12:11

In reflecting on the past almost 10 years, I’ve enjoyed serving my Heavenly Father while working with some amazing professionals. The County fought hard to pull ourselves back to a place of disciplined financial stability, while continuing to provide and enhance vital public services. I’m so proud of the exceptional public service County staff continually deliver in such an efficient and effective manner. There are too many achievements to list individually.  Constituents can read the audit reports, review the budgets, quarterly reports, policies, the strategic plan and so much more to see the dedication and commitment of our leadership team. The County has rebuilt reserves and prepared for the economic uncertainties that lie ahead. The Commission has developed and maintained your long-term planning for capital projects and road infrastructure. We’ve secured millions of dollars through grants, state and federal funding sources in an effort to keep improving County infrastructure, facilities and services. With much more in the pipeline and projects well-underway, the County is positioned for continued forward progress.

There are seasons to everything and I firmly believe God called me to serve as County Manager to fulfill His need and purpose.  Now He is calling me to an exciting new season with more harmony and balance. My family has made countless sacrifices in support of this role…more than anyone will ever fully know. My deepest heartfelt appreciation and admiration goes to each of them! This position is beyond demanding and consuming, and the time has come to focus on family and my health as this precious life is just too short.

Thank you for your service to the board and for the opportunity to have served at the board’s pleasure. I look forward to supporting the board as needed, as you determine the next step for recruiting and hiring another county manager.

Best regards,

Amber Hamilton
