Community Night is planned in Roosevelt County

The Roosevelt County Chamber and the Roosevelt County Complete Count Committee for the 2020 Census announced they will hold Community Night In on Facebook Live Saturday, May 2 from 3-8 p.m.

The event will feature close to a dozen local musicians in their living rooms playing everything from Country and Western to jazz as well as Spanish language songs. The lineup includes local recording sensation Will Banister, ENMU music instructor Travis Irwin, Andy Mason with originals and children’s and Spanish music. Allen Valdez who operates Lute of Orpheus Productions will entertain with jazz while other performers will include a variety of pop and folk music.

A variety of local personalities will be guest hosts, including Don Thomas of Central Christian Church, Roosevelt County Commission Chair Matt Hunton and others. In the breaks they’ll let you know how easy it is to complete the 2020 Census and they’ll give away over $3,000 worth of door prizes including a Traeger grill from Ace Hardware and a Wyld Gear cooler from Creighton’s Town & Country. There will also be a lot of gift cards to local restaurants as well as from Enchantment Vineyards and Roosevelt Brewing Company.

“We originally planned to have an outdoor event to promote a complete count in Roosevelt County,” said Complete Count Co-chair Johnny Montiel. “With the public health order restricting gatherings we just decided to take it online and the excitement it’s generating looks promising.”

“It’s important that everyone in our county completes the 2020 Census,” Montiel continued. “For every person that doesn’t get counted we stand to lose as much as $3,000 in state and federal funding as well as grants.”

Grab some snacks and settle into your easy chair or take a cool drink onto the patio this Saturday at 3 p.m. The event will happen online at the Roosevelt County Chamber of Commerce’s Facebook page. Be
