CANNON AIR FORCE BASE, N.M. – Chief Master Sergeant of the Air Force JoAnne S. Bass visited Cannon Air Force Base, Jan. 31, 2023. This marked Bass’s first official visit to Cannon AFB since she assumed her position as the 19th chief master sergeant of the Air Force.
During her visit, Bass held an all-call for enlisted Airmen across the wing. She spoke to the importance of prioritizing the needs of our Airmen and emphasized the crucial role Airmen play as the Air Force accelerates towards the changes necessary to stay ahead of our pacing challenges. The all-call was followed by a Q&A session where she gave Airmen the opportunity to ask questions regarding quality of life and the future of the force. She also took this time to recognize the five high performing Airmen and their outstanding achievements.
While visiting Cannon, Bass also sat down and spoke with the 27th Special Operations Wing’s Mission Sustainment Team on their pathfinding efforts and how Cannon is developing multi-capable airmen. During which, the MST was able to showcase some of its capabilities, equipment, and training.
“Cannon Air Force Base is leading the way in creating multi-capable Airmen prepared to adapt to future conflict environments,” said Senior Master Sgt. Daniel Graham, Mission Sustainment Team senior enlisted leader. “We’re grateful Chief Bass was able to see the MST concept in action and meet the airmen who are tirelessly working to ensure the Air Force is at the forefront of great power competition.”
Bass concluded her visit by meeting with wing leadership and civic leaders of the local communities, Clovis and Portales, to discuss some of the challenges Cannon Airmen and their families currently face, such as education, spouse employment, childcare, access to medical care, and access to safe and affordable housing.
“We were ecstatic to host Chief Bass and her team. Engagements and discussions with key Air Force leaders such as Chief Bass allow us the opportunity to address what is needed to improve our Airmen and families’ quality of life while stationed at Cannon AFB,” said Colonel Terence G. Taylor, 27th Special Operations Wing Commander. “One of our top priorities here at Cannon AFB is to enhance mission focus by improving the Cannon experience and quality of life. It is imperative that we prioritize the needs of our Airmen so we can stay competitive on the global stage.”
