Eastern New Mexico Director of Athletics Dr. Paul Weir announced the appointment of Bob Clifford as the Greyhound’s Associate Athletic Director for External Operations.

“Bob is going to be a terrific addition to the entire ENMU community. His experience, character, and passion will be instrumental as we try to position our athletic department for sustainable success. We are excited for his arrival and input into our standards and process to make ourselves the best we can possibly be,” said Weir.

Clifford will oversee all facets of Eastern’s external operations including marketing, promotions, corporate sponsorships, and fundraising.

“It is a privilege and unique opportunity to serve President Caldwell and Dr. Paul Weir, who epitomize the pursuit of scholarship and the true spirit of amateurism,” said Clifford.

Prior to joining the Greyhounds, Clifford was an independent consultant working with NCAA coaches on career moves, high school and collegiate transfer student-athletes providing honest evaluation of student talent level and prospective college opportunities, and advising university athletic administrations on the ability to develop a foundation of excellence for the pursuit of scholarship and winning.

From 2016-17, Clifford was the Director of Athletics at nearby New Mexico Highlands University. While at New Mexico Highlands, he implemented NMHU’s first electronic ticketing system, was responsible for an 300% increase in athletic attendance, raised $800,000 for a new field for the football and women’s soccer programs, and oversaw the installation of that new field and renovation of the football facility.

Before his time at New Mexico Highlands, Clifford was the Senior Associate Athletic Director for Sports and Administration at Oregon State University from 2001-2014. While with the Beavers, Clifford was an integral team member for the successful fundraising of 172 million dollars for the development and construction of the following facilities and programs: Reser Football Stadium, Truax Indoor Football Building, Tommy Prothro Football Practice Fields, Goss Baseball Stadium, Softball Field, Whyte Track & Field Center, Sports Performance Center, Academic Success Center, Basketball Practice Facility and the renovation of Gill Coliseum.

He also acted as a liaison to the Executive Office of the University Administration & Ombudsman and served as sport supervisor for football, softball, women’s soccer, swimming, wrestling, women’s golf, women’s track and field, cross country and the sports performance program, among other responsibilities.

From 2000-2001, Clifford served as the Director of Internal University Relations at Florida Atlantic University.

He got his start in athletics at the University of Michigan, where he held several positions from 1978-1997, including Coordinator of Academic Programs, Academic Advisor, and Sports Administrator.

Clifford holds a Bachelor of Arts from the University of Michigan.
