Graveside services for Clara Elliott, 86, of Portales, will be held at 10:00 AM, Thurs., Oct. 28, 2021 in the Floyd Cemetery with Steve Adkins officiating. Brandon Fuqua, Bobby Vaughan, Bryan Fuqua, Justin Vaughn, Jason Fuqua, Dillon Fuqua, James Fuqua and Scott Elliott will serve as pallbearers. Clara Belle Elliott was born Oct. 14, 1935 in Floyd County TX to the home of Frances (Payne) and Virgel Martin, and died at her home in Portales on Sat., Oct. 23, 2021. She grew up on a ranch in the Floyd community. In the mid 1960’s she earned her beautician’s license. In 1965, she moved into Portales, and commuted to Elida where she had a beauty shop for several years.
On Sept. 19, 1967 in Clovis, she was married to John Elliott. For a number of years, they owned a trucking company, and Clara not only kept the books, but also was a driver. All of her life she enjoyed being outdoors. She and her husband had a small farm and ranch where she enjoyed riding horses and checking on her cattle. Mrs. Elliott enjoyed bowling in a league with several local ladies. They began bowling at the university, and later bowled in Clovis.
She is survived by her husband, John Elliott of the home; a son and daughter-in-law, Joe and Tammy Fuqua of Carlsbad, NM; 9 grandchildren, Brandon Fuqua, Bobby (Wendy) Vaughn, Jason (Mandy) Fuqua, Bryan (Stephanie) Fuqua, Justin (Corenza) Vaughn, Brooke (Andy) Roseberg, Dillon Fuqua, James Fuqua and Shoni Fuqua; and 17 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents and a son J. M Fuqua in 1993.
