Memorial services for Christopher “Chris” Seat, 43, of Portales, will be held at 11:00 AM, Sat., Oct. 17, 2020 in the Wheeler Mortuary Chapel with his brother, Anthony “Tony” Seat officiating, assisted by Rev. Brad Morgan. Burial will follow in the Portales Cemetery. Brandon “Wrex” Kelley, Ian Kelley, Mark Cavett, Michael Pino, Christian “Fluffy” Smith, Michael “The Boy” Smith, Daniel May, Bobby Parker, Jonathan Mulkey and Billy Ward will be honorary pallbearers.
Christopher Robert Seat, known to family and friends as Chris, was born Feb. 1, 1977 at Nellis Air Force Base, NV to the home of Richelle “Riki” (Runce) and William Robert Seat, and died Oct. 4, 2020 in Albuquerque, NM. Having both of his parents in the Air Force, he lived in England, Idaho, and Portales during his youth. Chris was a 1995 graduate of Portales High School, where he was active in drama productions. He played a major role in Up The Down Staircase, as well as doing comedy and horror skits with his brother. Chris participated in Academic Decathelon, and was active in the Boy Scouts. Following graduation, he went to care for his disabled grandfather for a year before becoming a prison guard at Estancia, NM. Later he was employed as a security guard at an Albuquerque Casino. Chris had worked in different aspects of law enforcement for much of his adult life. For four years he worked as a DWI Compliance Officer while simultaneously working as Manager and Bouncer at Goober McCool’s Package Store and Lounge in Portales.
On Oct 27, 2012 in Portales, he was married to Charlene LaNell Smith, and raised her son, Tanner and daughter, Ayla. Chris was a loving husband, Dad, Son Brother and Uncle. He loved playing games of all sorts from cards and board games to role playing games. He spent many hours painting models for his games. He gathered his friends close to him, and created worlds for them to play in. He loved Halloween, and creating haunted houses. Classic Rock was his genre of choice when it came to music. Chris had a big heart, and was constantly taking in a friend and helping them get back on their feet.
He is survived by his wife, Charlene of their home; three sons, Tanner Stokes of Portales, Bailey Saline of Stafford, VA and Koby Saline of Moriarty, NM; two daughters, Ayla Stoke of Portales and Kaula Steufen of KY; two grandchildren, Bladyn Stuefen and Olivia Saline; his parents, Richelle “Riki” and William Seat of Portales; a brother and sister-in-law, Anthony Michael “Tony” Seat and Catherine of Albuquerque; along with numerous nieces and nephews.
