A celebration of the life of C. J. Brandenburg, 41, of Portales, will be held at 2:00 PM, Sat., Jan. 16, 2021 at the home of Angela and Michael Lovato, 202 N Industrial Dr, in Portales. Those desiring to make memorial contributions, may send them to a memorial fund in his name at First Financial to be used to benefit his family.
Christopher Jay Brandenburg, better known as “C.J.,” was born Nov. 29, 1979 in Portales to the home of Chrisitne Rose (Lovato) and Jay Kaye Brandenburg, and died Jan. 13, 2021 in Portales, as the result of an accident at work. C. J. was a loyal fan of the Dallas Cowboys, as well as the Boston Red Sox and the San Antonio Spurs. He truly enjoyed doing construction work, and took great satisfaction in being able to train a new employee in some new part of the job. For the past 15 months he had been employed at Nixon Enterprises.
He was a devoted father, and loved spending time with his children and niece and nephews. Backyard grilling and pitching horseshoes and playing cornhole provided great family time. On Feb. 9, 2020, C. J. was baptized at Faith Christian Family Church in Clovis. C. J. leaves a big hole in the lives of his family and friends, where he will always be missed but always remembered.
He is survived by his wife, Ashley McCollum of the home; his son, Ivan McCollum of the home; his daughters, Alexis Venegas of Portales, Brooke Brandenburg and Danee Brandenburg both of the home, and Renee Brandenburg of LA; two grandchildren, Jordynn and Aurelio Venegas; his mother and father, Christine and Jay Brandenburg of Portales; his sister and brother-in-law, Phoebe and John Salazar of Portales; two nephews Andrew Duran and Bryce Salazar and a niece, Rylee Salazar; his paternal grandfather, Jesse Brandenburg of AR; his maternal grandmother, Priscilla Lovato of Portales; his mother and father-in-law, Maxine and Troy McCollum of Portales; as well as several aunts and uncles and cousins. He was preceded in death by his paternal grandmother, Kathie Brandenburg, his maternal grandfather, Chirs Lovato, an uncle Danny Brandenburg, a cousin, Kacee Lovato and a brother, Seth Brandenburg who died as an infant.
