Christa Prewitt Obituary

Christa Prewitt 78, of Portales, NM, entered into the kingdom of heaven Wednesday October 24th. She passed over peacefully and quietly surrounded by family.  Services will be held at First Presbyterian Church, 108 S Ave F in Portales November 2, 2024 at 10:00 am.

Christa was born December 12, 1945 in Karlsrhue Germany to Paul and Elisabeth Rudolph. She married the love of her life, Jack Prewitt on February 21. 1964.

Jack and Christa lived many places during their years together. Moving from Germany to Tacoma, Washington they welcomed a son James Prewitt. Then moved to North Hollywood, California where they welcomed daughter Ursula Prewitt (Parker). Not wanting to raise their children in that California environment, they moved to north eastern New Mexico where they did numerous jobs. Jack rejoined the Army to get back to Germany. Along the way with stops in South Carolina as well as New Jersey. They were stationed to Herborn-Seelbach, Germany where Christa became a waitress at Seelbacher Hof there. As military does, Jack was then stationed in Ft Huachuca Arizona. After a short stay there, Jack received orders to Korea. It was decided then that the family would move to Portales, New Mexico. Where Christa started working the salad bar at the Cattle Baron, Portales, where many of her recipes are still used today. A short stint in Chapparal New Mexico, then returned them to Portales where she worked as a waitress at Jimmy’s Cafe which was later purchased by Wagon Wheel where she stayed for many years before deciding to start a day care at their house where she operated up until a few years ago.

“Grandma” Christa as she was known to many and loved.  Most of these children stayed with her well into their school years.

She is survived by son James Prewitt (Karrie) of Angleton, Texas as well as Daughter Ursula Parker (Malin) of Portales. Grandchildren Ashley Sisneros (Chris) of Dodge City, Kansas, Tana Craig (Ryan) of Portales, Jonathan Prewitt (Sherry) of Abernathy, Texas, Tony Prewitt (Kelsey) of Lubbock, Texas. And Chantel Prewitt or Portales.  She is also survived by a sister Doris Parman (Hugh) also of Portales. Great grandchildren Derrick, Aubriella, Macey, Maddy, Bryn, Kaisley, Abby, Ensley and Parker.  She was preceded in death by the love of her life Jack Prewitt and well as her parents Paul and Elisabeth Rudolph, and a great Granddaughter Trislynn Prewitt.

Christa enjoyed many things including dancing, cooking and going to the beach. But one thing that she enjoyed the most was being “grandma Christa” to her grandchildren, great grandchildren, and many other young lives in the Portales community over many years.
