Obituary

Memorial services for Chet Wells, 42, of Portales, will be scheduled for a later time.  The family requests that in lieu of flowers that donations be made directly to the family to help with their expenses.

Chet Matthew Wells was born July 19, 1979 in Desoto, MO to the home of Edna Sue (Cary) and Chester Warren Wells and died Feb. 1, 2022 in Portales, NM.  With his parents’ permission, he joined the US Army in 1995 at the age of 16.  While serving his country, Mr. Wells was an Army Ranger and served as a vehicle mechanic.  Upon his discharge, he began working as a motorcycle mechanic for Merck Harley Davidson in a suburb of St. Louis, MO.  Later he moved to New Mexico and completed his mechanics training in Tucumcari at Mesa Lands Technical College.  He had made his home in Portales since 2009.  For the past several years, Mr. Wells has been disabled and unable to work.

On Mar. 17, 1997 in Park Hills, MO, he was married to Barbara Ann Boyer.  He enjoyed playing role playing games and building models to play war games.  He was an excellent and adventurous cook, trying various cuisines over the years.  He enjoyed watching the Food Channel and trying new recipes that he found there.  Before his health deteriorated, he enjoyed camping and fishing and hiking and hunting.  He was a member of the Catholic Church.

He is survived by his wife, Barbara of their home; two sons, Christian and Tanis Wells both of Portlaes; and three daughters and two sons-in-law, Alexandrea and Tyler Dykes of Indianapolis, IN, Giavanni and Tytler Rogers of Portales and Kitiara Wells also of Portales; two grandchildren, Alexander Dykes and Jace Rogers; his father and step-mother, Chester and Irene Wells of Richwood, MO; two brothers, Bob Wells and Stuart Paggo and a sister, Tina Louden all of MO.  He was preceded in death by his mother, Edna Wells.
