Graveside services for Charles Summers, 61, formerly of Portales will be held at 2:00 PM, Wed., Feb. 24, 2021, in the Portales Cemetery with Rev. Steve Smith officiating. James Turner, Orvel Turner, Monty Johnson, Jordy Hayman, Dakota Hayman and Travis Johnson will serve as pallbearers.
Charles Ray Summers was born June 28, 1959, in Portales to the home of Cleo Mae (Poff) and Lawrence Albert “L. A.” Summers and died early Sunday morning, Feb. 14, 2021 in Albuquerque, NM. Mr. Summers attended the Portales schools. For a time, he worked in an auto parts store, and later he drove a taxi the railroad crews. Charles had made his home in Bosque Farms with his brother, Carl and his sister, Shirley for the past 30 years. For twenty years he worked as a security guard at the Museum of Natural History in Albuquerque.
Charles and his brother, Carl, enjoyed going to the horse races together. Charles was a fan of the Dallas Cowboys and the Houston Astros. He was raised in the Baptist Church.
He is survived by two brothers and a sister-in-law, William (Bill) and Carol Summers of Clovis, NM and Carl Summers of Bosque Farms, NM; his sister, Shirley Summers of Bosque Farms, NM; his nieces and nephews, Lisa, Bo and Wesley Summers; and numerous cousins. He was preceded in death by both of his parents, Cleo and L. A. Summers, a niece, Evelyn (Summers) Aguirre and a great-nephew, Brandon Summers.
