Charla Sue (Howard) Howard July 20, 1962 ~ May 12, 2023 (age 60)

Graveside services for Charla Howard, 60, of Kenna, will be held at 10:00 AM, Fri., May 19, 2023 in the Kenna Cemetery with Jeff Bilberry officiating.  All her family members and friends will serve as honorary pallbearers.

Charla Sue Howard was born July 20, 1962 in Portales, to the home of Thelma “Maurine” (Vincent) and Jakie Guiton Howard, and died in Albuquerque, on May 12, 2023.  Charla grew up on the family ranch in Kenna, and was a 1980 graduate of Elida High School.  While in school, she played basketball.   After graduation, she attended Eastern New Mexico University and competed on the rodeo team.  Charla won several buckles during her time at the university.

For a time after she left the university, Charla worked at various construction jobs.  For most of her adult life, she worked as a caretaker for several members of the community.  In addition to taking care of her parents, she worked for Elois Creighton and later for Martha Swagerty and Martha Jordan.

She is survived by three brothers, Monte Howard of Elida, Dan and Betty Howard of Kenna and Kim and Jeanie Howard of Texico, and her sister, Ann and Kit Pettigrew of Dora as well as her nieces and nephews, Meghan Howard, Kimberly and Cody Hintz, Krysten Howard, Brad and Amber Lynn Mauldin, Mindy and Mark Sena, Shae and Jenny Pettigrew and D’Shawn and Kerry Osburn.  She was preceded in death by both of her parents and a nephew, Jason Howard.
