The Roosevelt County Chamber of Commerce and The Roosevelt County Community Development Corporation proudly hosted their annual joint banquet on Saturday night at the CUB ballroom on ENMU Campus.   The event was sponsored by Dairy Farmers of America, McDonald’s John and Robyn Snowberger and ENMU.  Jodi Diaz, Director of the RCCDC and Quaylene Parkey, Director of the RCCC welcomed members and guests to an evening of celebration for community leaders.

The event, adorned with winter décor, provided a festive atmosphere for attendees. A special Thank You was given to the event decorators: Leslie Creighton, Kynzi Shelly, Nieves Davis, and Dr. Patrice Caldwell. Highlighting the evening was keynote speaker Matt Rush, a well-known motivational speaker who knows how to inspire his audiences to achieve their best. His down-home and engaging presentation on Planting Seeds of Greatness left guests motivated and ready to tackle future challenges.

During the banquet, awards were presented to recognize outstanding contributions to the community and the Chamber of Commerce.

The Harley and Faye Borden Awards are given to those who have improved the appearance of their business and/or a public area. This year’s recipients were Roosevelt County Electric Cooperative for their work on the downtown corner plaza, Eastern New Mexico University for the circuit workout fitness area on the ENMU campus, and The Portales Schools for the Sports Area Complex.

The Ambassador of the Year Award is given to the person who attends the most Chamber Events during the year.  This year’s recipient was Blessy Coss.

The Workhorse of the Year Award is given to the person who embodies the tireless work ethic and volunteer spirit day after day. This year’s recipient was Eldon Merrick. Even when presented with challenge after challenge, this person just pushed on running a successful real estate business, mounting a successful campaign for a Portales City Council seat, and serving as Roosevelt County Chamber President.

The Warm Heart of The Sunbelt Award is awarded to the person who through the years has committed unselfish dedication to Roosevelt County, committed to community service, who takes action to make things happen when needed, and is involved in many aspects of the community.  This year’s recipient Doc Elder is truly a public servant who reflects the Warm Heart (and voice) of the Sunbelt through his actions every single day!

Quaylene and Jodi said, “We were thrilled to bring together both boards, supporters, and members for an evening of inspiration and recognition.  Events like this strengthen our connections and drive progress”.
