Graveside services for Cathi Stokes, 57, of Causey will be at 2:00 PM, Tues., Feb. 7, 2017 in the Mt. Zion Cemetery with Zach Cathey officiating. Travis Belcher, Matt Taylor, Dusty Strong and Shawn Quick along with all other family friends will be honorary pallbearers. Cathi Marie Stokes was born Feb. 6, 1959 to the home of Barbara (Nix) and Robert Neal Strong, and died Fri. evening, Feb. 3, 2017 in Lubbock, TX. Mrs. Stokes’ father worked on highway construction crews, so her family moved several times while she was a girl. She was attending junior high school in Los Lunas, NM when she met her brother’s best friend, Jimmy Stokes. They were married in Albuquerque on July 11, 1976. Mr. Stokes also worked on highway construction crews, so they also moved several times. In 1987 they settled in Artesia, where they lived for five years before coming to Causey in 1992. For a time, she and her husband owned the Causey Store. At various times she worked in different places, but the majority of her adult life was spent caring for her family. Her greatest joy was watching her sons play basketball and baseball, and participate in other sports activities.
She is survived by her husband, Jimmy of their home; two sons and daughters-in-law, Tyrel and Jenifer Stokes of Hooker, OK and Matthew and Amber Stokes of Turpin, OK; 5 grandchildren, Isaiah, Julian, Brooklyn, Kinley and Clayton Stokes; and two brothers, Robert Strong of Los Lunas, NM and Jackie Strong of Bosque Farms, NM. She was preceded in death by her parents and a son, Clayton Ray Stokes who died in 2004.
