ODESSA, TEXAS — After making the postseason for two straight years, The Eastern New Mexico University football team has high expectations for the upcoming season, which starts in little more than a month. The Lone Star Conference acknowledged those expectations, and listed ENMU fourth in their preseason poll. Senior running back Kamal Cass shared Preseason LSC Offensive Player of the Year honors with Texas A&M-Commerce’s Luis Perez.

The Greyhounds claimed fourth in the poll after accumulating 136 points on votes from the LSC football coaches, sports information directors and media contacts. Texas A&M-Commerce (229 points) was chosen to repeat as league champions, while Midwestern State (192 points) was second in the poll.

“I’m looking to continue to build on what we’ve established over the years,” said Head Coach Kelley Lee. “We won the conference in 2013 and made two straight postseason appearances. I think for us what we do is unique so we focus on ourselves more than the opponents.”

“My goal is to be a better player than last year,” said Cass. “I want to be consistent. It’s a blessing to be picked for the award, it’s good for the program.”

“We have a good chemistry together,” Todd Countee said of the returning group. “As a defense we give great effort.”

The Hounds will kick off the season at Al Whitehead Field at Greyhound Stadium on Thursday, August 31, against Southwest Baptist. The game is scheduled for 7 p.m. Please contact the ENMU Athletic Department at 575.562.4309 or visit www.goeasternathletics.com for season ticket information.
