Obituary

Carol Ann Ennen, 87, passed from this life on Feb. 8, 2023 in Farwell, TX.  Mrs. Ennen was born Jan. 26, 1936 in Refugio, TX to the home of Hattie Merle (DeRouen) and Elmer Allen Waters.  Mrs. Ennen began playing piano at the age of 12, and became a very accomplished pianist.  As a teen, she played for her church youth group, and later for church services.  She graduated from Refugio High School in 1954.  While in high school, she played in the school marching band, and was privileged to play at the Cotton Bowl each year.

Following high school, she attended Sul Ross University, and was very proud of the fact that she was able to complete her Education degree in just three years.  While at college, she served as secretary and pianist for the Baptist Student Union.  It was also there that she met Clifton Ennen, and they were married May 21, 1957 in Alpine, TX.  She and her husband served together as Summer Missionaries in the northwestern US.

Mrs. Ennen taught in Azle, TX, as well as in Cottonwood, NM and in the Isleta District of El Paso, TX.  In addition, she taught piano lessons privately in her home for many years.  Throughout her life, Mrs. Ennen served as a church pianist in the various places that she lived.  She had served at Hermosa Drive Baptist Church in Artesia, NM, First Baptist Church, Farwell, TX and for 39 years at Calvary Baptist Church in Las Cruces, NM from 1977 until 2016.  She was also pianist for open houses and events, as well as for at least one hotel.

Mrs. Ennen was an avid walker, and “invented” Mall Walking before it was a common thing.  She was very witty with a ready laugh.  She loved to both tease and be teased.  Her deep and strong faith in Christ enabled her to see life in a positive and often humorous light.  That faith was instilled in each of her daughters.

Mrs. Ennen is survived by her three daughters and two sons-in-law, Dana and Curt Cook of Clovis, Robin Isler also of Clovis, and Jennifer and Greg Tiano of Wichita, KS; eight grandchildren, Brett (Brandi) Cook of Plainview, TX, Lerrin (Patrick) Clark of Bee Cave, TX, Craig (Jaylyn) Cook of Clovis, NM, Jaden (Morgan) Isler of Fort Worth, TX, Jadee (Jase) Herl of Springfield, MO and Samuel C. Tiano and Julia Tiano both of Wichita, KS; seven great-grandchildren; and a sister, Merle Hilbrich of Cedar Park, TX.  She was preceded in death by her parents, and  a son-in-law, J. D. Isler.
