CANYON, Texas – The Eastern New Mexico track & field program found success at the first and second days of the Lone Star Conference Outdoor Track and Field Championships.

Jessica Campbell was the first Greyhound to compete on Thursday as the lone Eastern heptathlon participant. She started with an eighth-place finish in the 100-meter hurdles with a time of 15.56 seconds (769 points) and then took third in the high jump with a jump of 1.60 meters (5-3.0, 736 points). Campbell placed second in the shot put with a throw of 10.88m (587 points) and then finished out the day with the 200m run where she crossed in 25.79 for third place (816 points).

Friday’s events started with the conclusion of the heptathlon. Campbell finished sixth in the long jump with a distance of 5.16 meters (16-11.25, 603 points), first in the javelin with a throw of 36.14m (118-07, 593 points), and third in the 800m run with a time of 2:26.57 (736 points). Her total score of 4840 points earned her a third-place finish overall and broke her own program record that she set earlier this season in the event.

Tamia Smith finished in fourth place in the shot put. She threw a personal best and new program record distance of 13.27m (43-6.50).

Marta Pascoa earned fifth place in the 3000m steeplechase after finishing in 12:08.85. Her time was fifth in the program record books and a personal best.

In the pole vault, Ocean Paul finished tenth as she cleared 3.00m (9-10).

After a lengthy lightning delay that pushed most of the track events to after 9 p.m. on Friday, the Greyhounds saw several student-athletes perform well in the preliminary heats.

Torisha LaForce advanced to the finals of the 400m hurdles after placing fifth in the prelims with a time of 1:06.92. Her time was a season best and third in the program record books.

In the 800m, Malethabo Seema clocked a 2:16.54 which was the second fastest time of the night to advance to Saturday’s finals.

Dan Hurren just missed the men’s 800m finals after finishing ninth overall in the prelims with a time of 1:54.64.

In the finals of the women’s 10000m run, Mercy Rotich finished fourth overall with a time of 39:16.19, which is the fourth-fastest time in program history. Aminata Kenyawani was close behind in fifth place with a time of 39:53.29 and Kayla Sisneros crossed in 41:11.71 for eighth place.

At the conclusion of the second day of competition, the Eastern New Mexico women’s team sits fourth overall with 25 points.
