Obituary
A memorial service for Calvin Glen McAfee will be held at 10:00 A.M., on Friday, January 20, 2023,, at Calvary Baptist Church.
Calvin Glen McAfee was born November 17, 1934 in Highway, NM to the home of Elma Irene and William Burnett McAfee and died December 6, 2022 in Goodman, MO. Glen lived most of his life in the Arch community where he farmed. He became a Christian as a young child and was a member of Arch Baptist Church for close to 50 years. There, he served as a deacon, Sunday School teacher, and sang in the choir.
On August 22, 1953 in Arch, he was married to Rhea Dean Kennedy. In addition to being active at church, Glen was a devoted husband and father as well as a natural-born farmer. He knew God had called and gifted him to farm. After his service in the Army, he received an honorable discharge and came home to Arch where he farmed for the next 40 years. In 1977, not satisfied with the price he received in Portales for peanuts he had grown, he and Rhea Dean founded Glen’s Peanut and Grain. They ran a successful peanut processing business together for 25 years until his retirement.
Glen was a member of Gideon’s International for 25 years and loved traveling with Rhea Dean to speak at churches about the Gideon’s work of Bible distribution and to personally pass out Bibles to children at local schools.
Sharing the Good News of the Gospel with others was his top priority. His next priority was his family. When Rhea Dean was diagnosed with brain cancer in 1994, Glen began researching nutritional ways in which to help her. After Rhea Dean received traditional medical treatments, Glen began feeding her and giving her supplements of things he had researched. She exceeded the doctors’ expected survival estimate by 13 years. She passed away in 2012. They had been married for 58 years.
He loved spending time with his kids, grandkids, and great grandkids. He taught them the value of work as well as the importance of play. Horses, hunting, dune buggies, go-carts, 4-wheelers, boats and tubes, snow and skis, theme parks, and travel. These were all ways in which he left a legacy of enjoying each day to its fullest.
Glen is survived by his son and daughter-in-law, Eldon and Deann McAfee of Arch; his daughter and son-in-law, Glenda and Kelly Tivis of Goodman, MO; five grandchildren, Jessica (Eric) Uranga of Springdale, AR, Joshua (Kayla) Tivis of Farmington, AR, Jodi (Pashi) Singh of Gilbert, AZ, Jami Tivis of Fayetteville, AR, and Jera Tivis of Goodman, MO; eight great grandchildren, Arcis, Samuel, Ian, Caleb, and Bella Uranga, Malakai, Adler, and Emberlee Tivis.
He is also survived by his brother, Wesley (Doris) McAfee of Portales.
Glen was preceded in death by his wife, both parents; two brothers, Alvie and Claud McAfee; and two sisters, Freeda Golden and Katherine Wilson.
